Our Future in Cloud Cost Optimization

Alon Arvatz

PointFive has closed a $20 million Series A funding round, bringing total funding to $36 million raised within 18 months. The round was led by Salesforce Ventures with continued participation from Index Ventures, Entree Capital, Sheva, and Vesey Ventures.

From Vision to Industry Traction

The company was founded to help organizations discover cost reductions hiding within their cloud environments -- inefficiencies that traditional tools cannot detect. The name PointFive reflects the mission of helping customers achieve up to 50% cloud cost reduction.

Since launch, the platform has gained adoption among enterprises including Elastic, Blackhawk Network, and Fanatics, validating the approach of going deeper than surface-level cost reporting to find meaningful optimization opportunities.

DeepWaste Detection at the Core

The proprietary DeepWaste Detection engine analyzes cloud resources at a behavioral level, examining how resources are actually used rather than just how they appear on a billing report. This approach identifies inefficiencies that affect not only costs but also performance, security posture, and overall cloud health.

The analysis extends well beyond traditional right-sizing and rate optimization into areas like storage configuration, networking inefficiencies, and managed service optimization -- categories that most cost tools do not address at all.

Expanding Across Cloud Providers

A major milestone is the expansion to multi-cloud coverage. Google Cloud support is now available alongside the existing AWS platform, with Azure integration on the near-term roadmap. This enables enterprises running workloads across multiple cloud providers to apply the same depth of analysis and optimization consistently, rather than using fragmented tools for each platform.

The 5x Research Team

Modeled after the threat research teams common in cybersecurity, PointFive's 5x Research Team is dedicated to continuously analyzing cloud data patterns and identifying new categories of optimization opportunities. Their findings are systematically integrated into the platform, meaning customers benefit from new detection capabilities automatically as they are developed.

This research-driven approach ensures the platform evolves in step with the cloud providers' own rapid pace of service changes and new offerings.

Bridging FinOps and Engineering

One of the persistent challenges in cloud cost management is the gap between FinOps teams who track spending and engineering teams who control it. The platform addresses this through customizable dashboards that serve both audiences -- financial stakeholders get the cost attribution and trend analysis they need, while engineers get the technical context and actionable recommendations required to make changes.

This dual-audience design is intentional. Cost optimization only succeeds when the people who understand the financial targets and the people who can implement changes are working from the same data.
